White & Company was founded in 2007 by Dr. Marshall S. White as an independent packaging research and consulting firm focused on delivering ‘systems-based’ unit load solutions, using his proprietary software Best Load®, to reduce packaging waste for manufacturers and distributors. Recognized by Modern Materials Handling magazine as one of the Top 10 materials handling professionals in the new millennium, Dr. White is a globally recognized expert on unit load analysis and pallet design.
White & Co's innovative approach focuses on 'system' design that incorporates knowledge of how packaging, pallets and unit-load handling equipment interact during storage and distribution to deliver maximum efficiency, safety and cost savings.
People oriented and customer centered, White & Co. has a commitment to produce feasible and economic solutions. White & Co.'s client portfolio includes many Fortune 1000 companies including Georgia-Pacific, IBM, Chep, Chevron, QVC, Coca-Cola, GAF, Owens Corning, ExxonMobil, Anheuser-Busch, Proctor & Gamble, Dole, Eastman Chemical, Kodak, DuPont, Home Depot and many more.
The firm provides a full complement of material handling experts specializing in key aspects of the unit load including: pallet design and performance, corrugated and plastic packaging, and the design of automated material handling systems. Our specialists work together daily and 'cross-train' in multiple disciplines to better understand the interactions of the unit load during handling, further amplifying their ability to identify opportunities to maximize unit load efficiency, improve performance and reduce costs.
White & Co. partners with a select group of packaging component suppliers to deliver complete solutions to all packaging related issues. This includes primary, secondary and tertiary levels of rigid and flexible packaging, pallets, and unit load stabilizers.
Utilizing more than 30 years of unit load research data, White & Company has developed proprietary packaging optimization software called Best Load®. Dr. White was also the lead project manager for the initial development of the National Wooden Pallet and Container Association's Pallet Design System© (PDS), a computer automated design and analysis program for wooden pallets.
White & Company also offers the broadest range of unit load evaluation and material handling design and efficiency research available publicly within the United States today. We do this by contracting all of our testing services exclusively through Virginia Tech's ISTA-certified Center For Unit Load Design and The William H. Sardo Jr. Pallet & Container Research Laboratory, where Dr. White served as the Director of both research centers. These laboratories feature comprehensive packaging, pallet, and unit load testing equipment. Also available is a unit load supply chain simulator called the VT FASTRACK which can be set up to simulate and accelerate the rough handling of consumer and industrial product supply chains.

Dr. White has led a distinguished career, receiving notable accolades and serving in many packaging industry leadership and educational roles including:
